Top 10 basic SEO Tips to build high traffic web site

Webmasters are hiring the SEO companies by paying thousands of dollars to optimize their sites for search engines and to get traffic from giants like Google, Yahoo and MSN. This is not possible for all webmasters. If you keep track of following basic SEO tips you can save these dollars and can achieve almost same final effect.

Although it is difficult to optimize for all the search engines at the same time due to the crawling and ranking algorithm difference in these search engine spiders. Concentrate on following basic things and you are almost 80% done for search engine traffic.
1) Keywords in URL:Try to add keywords in your post URL’s those will bring search engine traffic for your site. Keep the URL length short upto 4 words in domain name and upto 8 words in post slug. Keep in mind to include keywords that you are added in URL to post content naturally otherwise only keywords in URL won’t work.
2) Keywords in title tag: title tag is most important aspect of SEO. The post title is shown in search engine result pages. So give importance to have good title tag around 8 words length containing your core keywords included.
3) Keywords in anchor text of Inbound links:If you are submitting site to different web directories give different anchor text for each submission. Also for manual reciprocal link exchange try to have different anchor text and deeper post links instead of index page. Try to get backlinks from relevant sites.
4) Keyword in your post:Include the keywords naturally in post content. Use main keywords in H1, H2 tags. Keywords should be relevant to page.
5) Keywords in images alt tag:Fill the alt tag of your images with proper keywords. Search engines use this alt tag instead of the image description.
6) Inbound links:Links from relevant sites means these sites are voting for you and you will get importance for ranking. Stay away from bad neighbors. At least do not link from you to bad sites. Let bad neighbors link to you as you don’t have control on that so ignore it. As I mentioned above strictly try to have different anchor text for inbound links. Stay away from link spamming. Try to get some .edu and .gov links.
7) Outbound links:Do not link to more than 100 links from same page. It will be considered as link farm (word you might be hearing from beginning ;-)). Many outgoing links will not give you any benefit. Keep outgoing links limited and possibly link to relevant sites only.
8 ) Meta tags:Use Description and kewords Metatags. Metatags generally do not have that much importance now-days but Yahoo and MSN still consider Meta tags. Include post description in description meta tag. Some times this description will come as search result description on search result pages. Use keywords meta tag to include keywords, around 15-20 keywords will be sufficient. Do not use keywords that are not in your post content. Use All in One SEO pack plugin to add different Description and keywords meta tags.
9) Avoid Duplicate content:Wordpress blogs have drawback of duplicate contents. Content is said to duplicate when same content is accessible from two different urls. Concentrate on unique content. Fresh content is also important for fast ranking as crawlers love fresh content. Use robots Noindex meta tag and robots.txt file for avoiding duplicate contents. Use post excerpt on index, archives and category pages. You can use evermore wordpres plugin for wordpress blogs for showing post excerpts.
10) Site Navigation :Navigation should be simple. Avoid using javascripts and flash movies on home page. Interlink all your pages. Use related post plugin for this. Keep most of the pages accessible from home page. Do not use frames in site design. It will be difficult for crawlers to crawl your site. Do not use images to linking.

Tips for building a high traffic website or blog

This article outlines some basic tips for building a high traffic website. ; It also outlines some things that you should not do that could cause some serious setbacks.

  • Key words - Consider what people would search for which may cause them to find your site. Also find out what keywords are the most popular possibly by subscribing to a site that provides keyword popularity information. Gear some pages to these keywords so long as they are relevent to your material. Write some pages that would contain these keywords (In headers and other text) but don’t overdue it and keep the material useful.
  • Page ranking and getting links - Google is a very important part of the internet today. They use a computerized page rank system based on links and link structure to compute the “value” of pages. This value combined with the relevance or a search (or how closely your page matches the search phrase in terms of exact matches and number of matches) determines where your page link will appear when a search is done. Getting other webmasters to link to your site is a very important part of getting a good page rank. Suggestions include: Create one or more links pages where other webmasters may post links to their site on your site. Creating a friendly site that makes exchanging links easy encourages other webmasters to post your link. Partner with other sites and work with them to exchange links. Building an affiliates section with links to partner sites may help.
  • Content rich – Having a lot of content on your site will not only help improve your page rank, but will provide a better chance of getting page hits when internet users search for information. Also good quality content will keep them coming back It may be worth your while to give some useful content away for no charge to help build traffic to your site.
  • Getting awards – It is very useful to get awards for a quality or useful site from those sites that give awards. It adds to the prestige of your site and may draw additional customers.
  • Giving awards – Giving awards is a very useful way of getting links to your site from other quality sites since webmasters usually post the award with a link back to your site which can be required.
  • Active content such as discussion boards – On today’s internet active content is a very useful part of bringing people back to your site since many enjoy the free information exchange that is provided by discussion boards and similar tools.
  • Create a site map - This will make sure all your pages can be crawled. Some webcrawlers only crawl a site a limited number of links deep such as 3 or 4 links deep. If you create a site map which is available from a link on your home page it will allow webcrewlers to see all your pages within a depth of two links. Having a sitemap is especially important if you use framed HTML pages on your site.
  • Be sure all your pages are linked together using HTML links even if users have the ability to navigate to your pages using Javascript or other active programs. This is because webcrawlers may not be able to count links provided by active programs such as Javascript and this can keep the page rank (for search engines that rank pages) of many of your pages at a lower level than normal.
  • Avoid possibly catastrophic errors – There are some mistakes that could be made which can get you banned from some search engines so don’t do any of the following: Duplicate content on multiple sites can get your page rank penalized. Submitting your site to search engines too often (more than once per three months) could get you banned with little hope of a reprieve. Creating pages with hidden content that readers can’t see but search engines can see can get you penalized or banned. Linking from one site to another excessively especially if the two sites have the same IP address can get you penalized.

Dasavatharam - Kamal's perfect ten

One striking feature that hits you in the face once you have watched ‘Dasavatharam’ is Kamal Haasan's passion for filmmaking. All the ten roles he has essayed have been meticulously planned right from the body language to dialogue delivery. Be it the American president George Bush, the Vaishnavite priest of the 12th century or Fletcher, the American baddie.
The eyes are considered the most effective tools in creating the right kind of attitude for any actor and Kamal Haasan is a master at that. There are many a time in the film when the audience would have to force themselves to believe that it is the same actor who is the good guy as well as the bad guy.
The expressive and determined eyes of the priest, the mushy and yet funny countenance of Balaram Naidu, the hilarious CBI officer and the peaceful martial artist eyes of the Japanese character have all shaped up to fit into any acting text book. Hats off to Kamal Haasan on the acting front!!
Based loosely on Chaos theory, the narration of the film promises a lot of excitement and as the story unfolds, somewhere down the line there are a few missing links that have been forcefully stitched together. Govind, the bio-scientist in the United States of America has been wronged by his boss who has intentions of selling his invention to wrong hands. The determined scientist doesn't give up. He sneaks it away and after a few accidents the invention lands in India. The hunt and race against time especially with Fletcher, the ex-CIA baddie sniffing at his neck with murderous intent culminates into Govind meeting an irrationally sentimental and at times sweet Andal (Asin). The baddie with sizzling Mallika Sherawat for company proceeds along the vulnerable Indian security system and shows up at the right places at the right time.
The narration then makes sure most of the characters played by Kamal get into close proximity in terms of geography. The stunt sequences are quite professional with its share of thrilling moments, but then there are too many coincidences consistently. The protagonist and his slowly, but surely falling-in-love lady companion seem to be jumping off just about everything. Soft landing seems to be a predictable option at most times.
When it comes to action and stunt scenes, ‘Dasavatharam’ is head and shoulders above most Indian films. The music element in the film is passable with some breathtaking re-recording bits in patches.
Cinematography has been simply awesome. The heavy compositing and trick shots have not dampened Ravi Varman's innate talent at creating the right kind of mood the film depicts.
‘Dasavatharam's’ review can never be complete without talking about the makeup part. Apart from the desired result one can guess the kind of effort and hard work Kamal Haasan would have had to go through just to get them on and that too on a daily basis. Makeup has been good overall except for a few shots that show off a kind of plastic look.
Computer Generated Imagery plays a huge role in the film. When the same actor plays seven feet plus youth and an old woman who is barely five feet, one can imagine the kind of intensive scaling and image manipulation by the CG team. Recreation of the 2004 Tsunami is impressive and the action part weaves the intensity of the story.
The direction has been apt sticking to the script in the true sense of the term. K. S. Ravikumar known for his simple style of narration has not been himself with ‘Dasavatharam’, but has shown sparks of ingenuity.
Kamal Haasan has stuck to his favorite subject of the 'no God' debate in this film too and has glorified himself probably for the first time on screen with a dialogue directed at him as being the 'Ulaga Nayagan'.
With Kamal Haasan playing ten roles, all other actors have been completely overshadowed.
This is a movie that has highlighted a highly talented and passionate actor in his entire splendor. At the end of the film one tends to ask….has Kamal Haasan been so spectacular that he has overshadowed the script and story this time?

Volcanic Records

This day in 1944 was the most recent occurrence of Mount Vesuvius erupting in Italy, taking 26 lives and forcing mass evacuations of nearby towns. Spectacular and deadly, here are some record breaking facts in this field:

Most active volcano
The world's most active volcano is Kilauea, in Hawaii, USA, erupting on a continuous basis since 1983. Lava is being discharged at a rate of 5 m³(7 yd³ or 176 ft³) per second.

Smallest volano
Sand volcanoes, also known as sand blows, are formed during earthquakes when water is squeezed out from subsurface layers, carrying sediment with it that erupts onto the surface. The largest sand volcanoes are only around a few metres across with heights of a few tens of centimetres.

Youngest volcano
Paricutin, in Mexico, is a volcanic cone that erupted from a corn field on 20 February 1943, and was volcanically active until 1953. Most of the activity occurred in the first year, during which the volcanic cone grew to a height of 336 m (1,100 ft). Paricutin offered geologists a rare opportunity to witness the birth, evolution and death of a volcano.

Largest volcano
craterThe worlds largest caldera or volcano crater is that of Toba, north-central Sumatra, Indonesia, covering 1,775 km (685 miles). It last erupted around 75,000 years ago.

Highest active volcano
The Ojos del Salado on the border between Chile and Argentina, is the world's highest active volcano at 6,887 m (22,595 ft) high.

Discovery of Neptune

Unlike Uranus and Ceres, Neptune was not discovered by accident. It was proposed that a planet beyond Uranus could account for irregularities in Uranus' orbit. Independently, two astronomers, John Couch Adams in England and Urbain-Jean-Joseph Le Verrier in France, calculated the position of this yet unknown planet.

The search began. The British astronomer James Challis, using Adams' predictions, observed the planet on the night of August 4, 1846, but failed to compare his observations with those of the previous night and did not recognize the planet. On September 23, 1846, the planet was finally found on the first try by the German astronomer Johann Galle using Le Verrier's predictions.
Who Discovered Neptune?
Who should receive credit for discovering Neptune? Adams or Le Verrier who predicted its position? Challis who saw it but did not know it? Galle who found it? Controversy raged.

It was fortunate that Neptune was discovered in the mid-19th century. Just 30 years later the planet was far from the positions predicted by both Adams and Le Verrier.

Discovery of Uranus

Sir William Herschel (1738-1822)

The planet Uranus was discovered by the noted British astronomer, Sir William Herschel, on March 13, 1781. Actually, the planet had been observed numerous times by other astronomers as early as 1690, but it was thought to be another star.

The planet was discovered accidentally while Herschel was surveying all stars down to magnitude eight -- those that are about ten times dimmer than can be seen by the naked eye. One "star" seemed different and within a year was shown to have a planetary orbit 18 times farther from the Sun than Earth. The new planet was named Uranus after the father of Saturn in Roman mythology.
Uranus was discovered using this 15-centimeter (6-inch) telescope designed and built by Herschel.
William Herschel built his own telescopes , including one which had a focal length of 6 meters (20 feet) and a larger telescope of the same design with a 12 meter (40 foot) focal length.

Astronomical Feats

On this day in 1982, all 9 planets aligned on the same side of the sun. This phenomenon (called ‘Syzygy’) has inspired us to into and beyond our solar system for today’s records:

Closest moon to a planet

Of all the moons in the Solar System, the one which orbits closest to its planet is the tiny Martian satellite, Phobos.
Phobos is 9,378 km 5,827 miles from the centre of Mars - which corresponds to 5,981 km 3,716 miles above the Martian surface.
Phobos is a small potato-shaped irregular moon, measuring 27 x 22 x 18 km (17 x 14 x 11 miles). It is dark and covered with dusty craters and is almost certainly an asteroid which was captured by Mars' gravity many millions of years ago.

Closest planet to a star

The closest planet to any star discovered so far is a Jupiter-sized gas giant orbiting the star OGLE-TR-3. This 'hot Jupiter' orbits just 3.5 million km (2.1 million miles) from its parent star and has an orbital period of just 28 hr 33 min. OGLE-TR-3 is a G-type star (similar to the Sun) some 1,500 parsecs (4,900 light years) away.

Fastest planet

Mercury, which orbits the Sun at an average distance of 57.9 million km (35.9 million miles), has a orbital period of 87.9686 days, thus giving the highest average speed in orbit of 172,248 kph (107,030 mph). This is almost twice as fast as the Earth.

Highest cliffs in the Solar System

NASA's Voyager 2 probe encountered the planet Uranus and its collection of moons in 1986. The small moon Miranda, with a diameter of 472 km, has a surface made up of a jumble of bizarre geological features. One of the most prominent of these features is an enormous cliff with a vertical relief of about 20km 12 miles. This cliff, named Verona Rupes, is more than ten times higher than the walls of the Grand Canyon on Earth. That this towering cliff is so huge is made even more remarkable by the small size of Miranda itself. The white material exposed in the cliff face is probably mostly water ice.

Tallest clouds

The tallest eye-wall clouds are a massive vortex of clouds, similar to a hurricane, which were discovered at Saturn's south pole in 2006. Unlike Jupiter's Great Red Spot, this feature exhibits the classic eye wall clouds of a hurricane on Earth. This south polar vortex is the only time an eye wall has been detected on another planet and, with heights of between 35 and 70 km (18-46 miles), are roughly 5 times higher than occur in terrestrial hurricanes.

He is now being tattooed with white designs on top of the black, and coloured designs on top of the white!

All-round Yusuf stars in tense IPL final

Final: Chennai Super Kings v Rajasthan Royals at Mumbai - June 1, 2008

A galaxy of international stars might have added fizz to the IPL but it was India's most improved domestic player who sparkled in the tense final at the DY Patil Stadium. Few outside India might have heard of Yusuf Pathan before this tournament but he imposed himself on the grand stage, snaffling three wickets before smashing a scintillating 56, setting the stage for the inspirational Shane Warne to pull off the last-ball nailbiter.
Chasing 164 wasn't going to be easy on the slightly two-paced surface and Rajasthan were hobbling at 42 for 3 but the 65-run stand between Yusuf and Shane Watson provided the impetus. The base was set by Yusuf's ballistic, yet fortuitous, fifty. Chennai will rue the chance they missed in the 11th over - Yusuf tried to loft Muttiah Muralitharan but Suresh Raina, one of India's best fielders, couldn't latch on to the skier after running from mid-on. With the asking rate approaching 10, that could have been a big blow. Murali had no answers against him in the next over, though, when he was blasted for two successive sixes over wide long-on.
Yusuf soon pounded Balaji, backing away and blitzing thunderbolts down the ground, and looked more like a veteran accustomed to such high-pressure situations. He looked set to run away with the match but Raina's dart-accurate throw from gully added another twist.
Yusuf was earlier instrumental with the ball too. Just as Chennai appeared to be building partnerships he pegged them back with his fastish offbreaks. S Vidyut holed out to deep midwicket, Parthiv Patel snicked to the wicketkeeper, and Albie Morkel top-edged towards short fine leg. Not only was he the most effective of the bowlers but also the most economical - showing the ability to raise his game at the crunch.
Yusuf finished the tournament with 435 runs at a jaw-dropping strike-rate of 179 and eight wickets as well, making it impossible for the national selectors to ignore him.

IPL stars

The pick of the IPL crop

Shaun Marsh

616 runs at 68.44 from 11 games; S/R 139.68; 441 balls faced: 171 dot balls, 59 fours, 26 sixes

In an IPL minute, a star is born. We knew him as Geoff Marsh's son, and by the end of the tournament Swampy was a pretty proud dad. Marsh junior kept things simple: no fancy paddle shots or walking across the stumps for him; instead, he would stay still on leg stump guard, make no premeditated movements, pick the length early, and ping them in the V perfectly. Five fifties and a hundred speak for his consistency.

Sanath Jayasuriya

514 runs at 42.83 from 14 games; S/R 166.34; 309 balls faced: 162 dot balls, 57 fours, 31 sixes

Jayasuriya's success can be gauged by the fact that his IPL performances persuaded the Sri Lankan sports minister to put pressure on the national selectors to pick him for Sri Lanka's next ODI series. Jayasuriya started the tournament slowly, picked up steam, and exploded brilliantly in a flurry of violent short-arm pulls and cuts after Sachin Tendulkar joined the side. Those powerful forearms unfurled the most sixes in the tournament, and he finished with the best strike-rate of any batsman who scored more than 450 runs. His big moment of weakness couldn't have come at a worse time for Mumbai - against Rajasthan, he failed to collect a throw that would have put his side into the semi-final - but by then he had done enough to stamp his name on the tournament.

Gautam Gambhir

534 runs at 41.07 from 14 games; S/R 140.89; 379 balls faced: 134 dot balls, 68 fours, 8 sixes

He was the Man of the Series in the World Twenty20, and predictably, one of the batting stars of the IPL. A cool head and an unhurried technique, and a penchant for staying beside the line of the ball, saw him lead the running for the Orange Cap till late in the piece, when Marsh stole a march on him. "In this format, I don't think about whether my head is still, where my front foot is," Gambhir said. "It's all about instinct." That's the sort of confidence that saw him hit the most fours in the tournament.

Kumar Sangakkara (wk)

320 runs at 35.55 from 10 games; S/R 161.61; 198 balls faced: 69 dot balls, 41 fours, 8 sixes

There was tough competition for this spot from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but with Shane Warne nominated captain, Sangakkara edges out the Indian ODI captain in the XI. He had a higher strike-rate than Dhoni and rarely failed in crunch situations. Sangakkara did not make dramatic changes to his approach or technique for the IPL. His Twenty20 mantra: "You try and plan exactly what areas are your strength, and you wait for suitable deliveries to come along. All the other deliveries you try to work for a single." Also in his favour is that he was the vice-captain by proxy, providing valuable inputs to Yuvraj Singh.

Shane Warne (captain)

19 wickets at 21.26 from 15 games; S/R 11.2, econ 7.76

They said he was the best captain Australia never had, and he proved it by marshalling a bunch of unknowns to stardom. Warne inspired Rajasthan's local Indian players, such as Swapnil Asnodkar, Yusuf, Dinesh Salunkhe, Niraj Patel and Ravindra Jadeja, to play well above their potential, and made sure the big guns like Graeme Smith - with whom he had an infamous past - and Shane Watson kept firing game after game. He constantly improvised - sent Tanvir in as a pinch-hitter, made Dimitri Mascarenhas open the bowling against Virender Sehwag, used Patel as an opener, sent Yusuf and Watson in according to the demands of the situation - and kept the opposition guessing. His bowling, unsurprisingly, was as good as ever and he finished with the second-highest wicket tally.

Shane Watson

472 runs at 47.20 from 15 games; S/R 151.76; 311 balls faced: 114 dot balls, 46 fours, 19 sixes

Long touted as the next great Australian allrounder but for injury problems that did not allow him to showcase his true potential. The IPL changed everything for Watson: he batted furiously, bowled aggressively, and prowled the field. In terms of technique he was the one who made the most adjustments among the high-scoring players in the tournament. He took an off-stump guard, created his own line, and repeatedly swung to his favoured on side. Even while bowling, he ignored the conventional yorkers and slower ones and pitched consistently short. It all paid off, and how.

Yusuf Pathan

435 runs at 31.07 from 16 games; S/R 179.01; 243 balls faced: 89 dot balls, 43 fours, 25 sixes8 wickets at 28.75; S/R 21.1, econ 8.16

Yusuf emerged out of his younger brother's shadow in the IPL, spectacularly. He showed he could win a game with his violent batting in half an hour, or turn one with his miserly bowling just as quickly. With the second-best strike-rate among batsmen who scored more than 200 - Virender Sehwag was the best, with 184.54 - he was arguably the purest clean hitter of the tournament, thrusting his left leg out of the way and knifing through the line repeatedly. He came to the IPL on the back of a great List A limited-overs tournament on the domestic circuit and continued on his merry way. He reserved his best for the final - a three-wicket haul, in the course of which he ran rings around the batsmen, and an explosive half-century to charge his side home. He couldn't have scripted it better.

Rohit Sharma

404 runs at 36.72 from 13 games; S/R 147.98; 273 balls faced: 100 dot balls, 38 fours, 19 sixes

The most classical and stylish of the IPL's leading batsmen, Sharma batted with a nonchalant ease that defied the hurried format of the game. He took care not to get behind the line too much, but stayed adjacent, saw the ball early and played it late. He repeatedly made room to hit length deliveries over covers, and pulled well. Pity he had to end up carrying his out-of-sorts team on his shoulders and be denied the taste of success. His IPL efforts, coupled with the good showing in the CB Series in Australia, made critics forget his dismal time in the Ranji Trophy - in which he only faced 294 balls all season - and has had purists licking their lips at the prospect of watching him in Tests.

Farveez Maharoof

15 wickets at 16.60 from 10 games; S/R 14.4, econ 6.91 125 runs at 20.83; S/R 158.22

Parsimonious. Nagging. Almost a McGrath clone. A great value-for-money buy for Delhi for just US$200,000, Maharoof tied the batsmen down with his tight line and length, struck vital blows with the bat, and emerged from the tournament with his reputation considerably enhanced. He mixed his pace up and punctuated his slower ones with yorkers. He hit Shane Warne for 27 runs in an over, and even took a running, diving boundary catch reminiscent of Roshan Mahanama to dismiss Yuvraj Singh in one game.

Sohail Tanvir

22 wickets at 12.09 from 11 games; S/R 11.2, econ 6.46

The best bowler of the IPL, well clear of the pack on the wickets list though he played just 11 games. Tanvir's arms whir like fan blades at release, making it difficult for the batsmen to pick him out of the hand - a crucial advantage in a version of the game where every ball is supposed to go over the fence. He has a slower one that not many read, and fires in yorkers at will. He had the best economy- and strike-rate among bowlers who took more than six wickets in the tournament. No mug with the bat, it was apt that he hit the winning runs in the final for the Rajasthan Royals.

Glenn McGrath

12 wickets at 29.75 from 14 games; S/R 27, econ 6.61

It was a year since McGrath had played competitive cricket but nothing had changed. The balls leapt off the short-of-length zone around off stump as they had done for a decade. Yo Mahesh, his team-mate, said of him in awe, "He will say, 'Outside off, he'll leave the ball' and that's what the batsman does. Then he'll say, "Legcutter, middle and leg, batsman takes one.' And that's what happens!" McGrath's best was 4 for 29 against the Royal Challengers and the wickets included Rahul Dravid and Ross Taylor. He turned up for practice the day he landed in Delhi. "Do I look fit?'' he asked, reportedly. Plenty of batsmen now wish he hadn't been. And to think he only cost $315,000.

Rajinikanth: Simple living

Superstar Rajinikanth has been extensively travelling the countryside in connection with the shooting of Kuselan. Recently, when he was in Pollachi shooting for the film, he stayed with a very close friend.
To beat the severe summer heat, his host decided to hire an AC for the actor. But before the arrangements could be made, Rajinikanth arrived. He assured his host that he need not bother about the AC as he was perfectly comfortable. It is heard that the actor rested on the floor, with just a bed-sheet and a pillow!
His simplicity is truly admirable.
